Local coverage
eSIM Qatar
Land at Hamad International and you need data before anything else: the ride-hailing app, the hotel address, the message home. A Qatar eSIM installs at home, registers on ooredoo 5G when you switch it on, and covers a layover in Doha or a few days in the city.

Using mobile data in Qatar
Coverage during your trip
The plan registers on ooredoo and lists 5G. Around Doha that connection is what carries maps, ride-hailing and messages; on a desert day or a long drive out of the city the signal is only what ooredoo has there, because a plan cannot add coverage of its own. Save the map and the camp's pin before you leave hotel Wi-Fi.
Choosing and preparing your plan
Free Wi-Fi at Hamad International covers the passenger terminal on the #HIAQatar network, and SIM booths sit at the east and west ends of the Arrivals Hall, so the terminal is not your gap. Leaving it is: ride-hailing pick-ups run only from the multi-level parking facility, reached by exiting the Arrivals Hall through Gate 3, and that booking happens in an app. Size by the trip, not by the price per gigabyte: 1 GB for 7 days at $3.99 is a layover or a day or two out, 3 GB at $9.00 is the default for three to five days of maps, rides and messages, and 5 GB at $12.29 is for photos, video or a hotspot.
Qatar eSIM questions
How much data do I need for a Doha layover?
A day or two out of the terminal: 1 GB over 7 days at $3.99 covers maps, ride-hailing and messages at light use, which our data guide puts at 300–500 MB a day. Staying three to five days in the city: 3 GB at $9.00. Go to 5 GB at $12.29 only if you upload photos, watch video or share a hotspot. If you never leave the terminal, the airport's free Wi-Fi on #HIAQatar may be all you need.
What do I switch on when I land?
Turn the eSIM on and set it as the line for mobile data. Keep your home SIM for calls and verification codes, with data roaming off on that line so it cannot connect on your home tariff. If the eSIM shows bars but no internet, switch roaming on for the travel line — that is the usual missing step. Validity starts at the first connection, and you have 180 days from purchase to activate.
Does the eSIM work outside Doha?
The plan covers Qatar and registers on ooredoo, with 5G listed on the plan page. On a desert day or a long drive, the signal is whatever ooredoo provides there, because coverage belongs to the network and not to the eSIM. Save the map and the camp's pin before you leave hotel Wi-Fi.
