Local coverage
eSIM Israel
Buy the Israel eSIM before you fly and it joins Hot Mobile, Cellcom or Pelephone when you switch it on, so you are not looking for a SIM counter after passport control. It is data only, with no Israeli number, and the three plans stop at 5 GB.

Coverage during your trip
The plan page lists Israel as the coverage area and three local networks — Hot Mobile, Cellcom and Pelephone — each shown with 5G. That signal comes from those networks, not from the eSIM, and it thins out in desert and nature areas: parts of the Negev, the Ramon Crater, the Judaean Desert and some routes around the Dead Sea. Download the map area and save the driver or camp number before a desert day.
Choosing and preparing your plan
Pick by trip length. The 1 GB plan runs 7 days, so a ten-day visit can outlast it; the 3 GB and 5 GB plans run 30 days, and 5 GB is the ceiling, with no 10 GB or 20 GB plan. For a second week, top up rather than buy a second plan: top-up is listed as available, and the page does not say whether a top-up restarts the 30-day window, so ask support if the timing matters. Install at home. Since 1 January 2025 visitors need an ETA, applied for online before travel for 25 ILS, and border control can include lengthy questioning and a search of your devices, which is not the moment to be setting up a phone.
Israel eSIM questions
Does the plan include calls, or is it data only?
It is data only: there is no Israeli number and no calls or SMS from the eSIM. Messages and calls inside apps such as WhatsApp run over data, so they use the plan, while a normal call to a hotel, a driver or an airline stays on your own SIM. Keep that SIM active for calls and verification codes, with data roaming off on it.
I am staying a second week. Can I top up instead of buying again?
Yes — top-up is listed as available on the Israel plans. Watch the clock as well as the gigabytes: the 1 GB plan runs 7 days, while the 3 GB and 5 GB plans run 30, so a two-week trip should start at 3 GB or 5 GB. The page does not say whether a top-up restarts the 30-day window, so ask support before you rely on it for a long stay.
I have signal but no internet. What do I check first?
Check the line before the plan: the eSIM has to be selected for mobile data, data roaming has to be on for that eSIM only, and airplane mode has to be off. Restart the phone, then open a page in the browser. If it still does not connect, follow the APN instructions supplied with the plan. Leave data roaming off on your home SIM throughout.
My route goes on to Jordan. Does the same plan keep working?
It does not. The coverage field lists Israel, and a land crossing does not move a plan from one country to the next. Buy a plan for the country you enter, or check whether the global plan covers every stop on your route before you fly. Two separate plans also mean two installations, so do the second one on Wi-Fi before you leave.
