Using mobile data in France
Coverage during your trip
Coverage is generally strong in Paris and other cities, including much of the Paris metro. Signal can drop in the Alps and Pyrenees, in rural valleys, and in tunnels on high-speed TGV lines, so download train tickets and hotel details before long journeys.
Choosing and preparing your plan
A city break built around maps and messaging needs modest data, while road trips through Provence or the Loire Valley and heavy photo sharing need more. If you are combining France with neighbouring countries, a Europe regional plan can be simpler than several single-country eSIMs.
France eSIM questions
Does a France eSIM work in the Paris metro?
Much of the Paris metro and RER network has mobile coverage, though it can vary between stations and tunnels. Keep your tickets and route saved on your phone in case of a gap.
Can I use a France eSIM in Monaco, Switzerland, or Italy?
Only if those countries appear in the plan's coverage list. For trips across several countries, compare the Europe regional plans, which cover multiple destinations with one eSIM.
When should I install a France eSIM?
Install it over reliable Wi-Fi before you leave home when the plan allows it, then switch mobile data to the eSIM after landing. Check the plan details for when validity starts.
