When a data-only eSIM fits your trip
A data-only eSIM provides mobile internet for maps, translation, browsing and existing messaging app accounts. It does not provide a local phone number, regular carrier calls or SMS. App registration may still require verification using a number you already have.
For a short visit, keeping your usual number and adding a travel data line may be enough. Confirm that your device supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked using our compatibility guide.
When to consider a local-number plan
If you need local calls or SMS, look for a plan that explicitly includes a Vietnamese number. A local SIM can be physical or an eSIM: the SIM format alone does not determine whether calls are included.
For longer stays, compare ongoing data costs, renewal options, registration requirements and support. A number-included plan does not guarantee that every app or bank will accept it for verification; check with the service you need.
What to compare before paying
- Total data versus a daily allowance, and what happens when it runs out.
- Validity and the event that starts the countdown.
- Supported networks and coverage along your route.
- Hotspot support if you plan to connect a laptop.
- Top-up options, installation rules and support channels.
If you are already in Vietnam, check the selected plan’s activation rules before buying and use reliable Wi-Fi for installation. Follow the instructions supplied with your order rather than assuming every eSIM activates in the same way.
Choose based on your actual needs
Start with Vietnam eSIM data plans if mobile internet is your main requirement. Read the installation guide before setup, or contact support if a plan’s features are unclear.
